Coastal Frameshop and Gallery presents ABSTRACTIONS3, a
group exhibition of works in mixed media by Lee Wayne Mills,
Peggy Sampogna and Michaele Ann Harper. Each of the artists
brings a bold and individualistic approach to unique
combinations of paint, paper and collage in the making of
their art - and together they explore a fascinating range of
images possible for artists working in an abstract mode
today.
Lee
Wayne Mills, Rehoboth resident and co-owner of Coastal
Frameshop and Gallery, continues to generate pieces from the
rich mix of recycled materials, found objects and random
play of collage elements employed in the construction of his
work.
Many
of the images spring from the recollection of time and place
- in this exhibition, local marshes and wetland vistas - or
a suite of works on hand-made paper using energies from a
visit to Puerto Vallarta.
Peggy
Sampogna, of Millville, a long-time favorite of the Rehoboth
Art League Outdoor Show, this time shows recent works of
richly textured and saturated color with dense patterns and
overlays.
Like tapestries, they weave floating and hovering
compositions which are topographies of her experiences and
her working methods.
Michaele Ann Harper - recently returned to the region after
stints in Fort Worth, Texas and Atlanta, Ga. - shows
essentially intimate mindscapes reflecting her interest in
mark-making in general with a specific knack at capturing a
big landscape motif on a much smaller scale.
Dashing brushstrokes, bright incidental color and graphic
linearity punctuate her vistas.
Separately and together these three artists conjure real
connections to a very real world; but they do it through an
abstract sensibility with abstracted materials and
approaches - in a real way, picturing all the possibilities.
The public is invited to meet the artists at an opening
reception from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 8. Their efforts
can be viewed through Aug. 20 at Coastal Frameshop and
Gallery, 4284-B Highway One (on the service road near CVS)
in Rehoboth Beach.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday and Wednesday
through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Closed
Tuesday or open by appointment. For more information, call
302-227-8704.
